MIDWEST COMPANIES COMBINE FORCES FOR GLOBAL IMPACT

May 6, 2013 | HARRISTOWN, IL — EPL Bio Analytical Services (EPL) is proud to continue its long standing partnership with the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (the Danforth Center) in St. Louis, Missouri. EPL supports, both financially and collaboratively, the Danforth Center’s mission of improving the human condition through plant science. Recently, EPL staff met with Dr. William H. Danforth, the Danforth Center’s chairman of the board of trustees, to discuss the way EPL’s processes affect global food production.

“We are grateful for the quality analytical support provided to the Danforth Center by EPL, as well as their overall support of the Center. We look forward to continued interactions,” said Dr. Elian Gaitan-Solis, product development manager at the Danforth Center.

“This is a really exciting time to be involved in agricultural biotechnology,” states Fred Claussen, vice president of new method development at EPL. “Even as a small company, we participate in assuring there is a safe, abundant food supply for the growing world population.”

EPL CEO, Robin King echoes this sentiment. “We are excited to have synergy with the Danforth Center. It is easy to get caught up in research and forget about the full scope of the task. Our mutual admiration with the Danforth Center creates a bridge between for-profit and not-for-profit research worlds. This working relationship creates the greatest impact.”

EPL serves agricultural biotechnology and chemical companies by analyzing genetically modified crops, biopesticides and crop chemicals to assure that plant protection agents are safe for people and the environment. They bring innovative technology and skill to the industry while working with a wide variety of crops including maize, soy, cotton, canola, fruits, nuts, vegetables and cassava.

Founded in 1998, the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center is a not-for-profit research institute. Research at the Danforth Center feeds the hungry, improves human health, preserves and renews the environment and enhances the St. Louis region as a world center for plant science. The Center’s work is funded through competitive grants and contract revenue from many sources, including the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Agency for International Development, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
